Hello, Happy New Year 2023!
January often marks the beginning of ‘New Year Resolutions’. Many set fitness goals, work goals, personal goals and of course career goals that they want to achieve that year. While some manage to stick with them (Good on’em), rest of us forget about it by the third month. You career goal need not be that way!
Here’s our tips on setting and sticking with your career goal.
Set a goal that is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant/Relevant and Time Bound) for the year. Break that goal down into monthly and weekly targets. And measure them weekly, monthly to see whether you hit/miss your goal. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t hit your goal for that week, try to make it up in the next week but make sure you don’t miss your goals consistently because consistency is the Key!
Surround yourself with peers and mentors that help you achieve your goal. Perhaps setting a goal with your buddy and you can keep each other accountable?
Be open to new experiences and new learnings and where needed be open to calibrating your goal. Remember, the magic of achieve your goal is not just achieving the goal but the learnings you have during the process of getting there!
Good Luck with your New Year Resolution!
Cheers

“Working in a startup environment compelled me to wear different hats, which enabled a wide application of knowledge. In fact, theories from different subjects surfaced and helped in advancing my work progress. There existed; however, a theory-practice gap where I found myself knowing how to perform a task but lacking the capability to execute it. Such realisations help me recognise my weaknesses, which in turn, helps visualise the path I must take to expand my knowledge - that is to equip myself with the necessary skill sets to bridge the gap between knowing and doing.” An Duong, Masters student at the University of Melbourne.
