If AI is coming for your job, what will you do?
+Startup Internship & VC Fellowship Application Open
Well, we’ve all heard it- AI can be a boon or a curse to society and AI might just take away your job! But what does it actually mean? Does it really mean that there’s no hope for our young graduates entering the workforce? Or does it mean that we all have to take a job or a course related to AI to stay relevant? But what happens if we want to pursue other things other than AI?
This would have been the questions that many would have asked during the Industrial revolution when horse carts were replaced by cars, or when the internet took over in the 90s. Here we are sitting, either in despair or in delight with what the world could look like with AI. AI might just be the lifeblood of the way we do things in the future just like how the internet is today. Then how do we plan for this, especially as students and graduates? Should I change all my courses to study AI? Well, it doesn’t have to be that way.
It is true that AI will be able to do most of the tasks that humans are doing today, esp things that can be automated. We’re already seeing industries being disrupted with the introduction of AI technology, e.g. customer care calls, content writing, video productions, even generating codes etc, the list goes on.
However, where we can shine is in things that make us truly human. The skills to connect with one another, to think, to be creative, to be empathetic, the way we communicate, problem solving. These are things that make us who we are as humans.
We’ve seen dystopian movies that make it look like AI will be able to be close to humans but will AI be able to solve complex societal problems that only humans can feel and do something about it. Well, only the future can tell but what we can be certain of is the skills that help us think and be humans will be in demand. It goes back to our roots, humans living in societies, helping one another. So, it is time that rather than being afraid, acquire skills and mindset that will help you leverage AI and augment your human skills.
